Control Arms Campaign -Film Screening "In a Soldier's Footsteps"

The Control Arms committee at Oxfam Canada's Toronto Office launched the 100 days of action in March to raise awareness on arms transfers, which fuel violent conflict, poverty and suffering, affecting people worldwide.

Please join us for a film screening of
In a Soldiers Footsteps
Directed by Mette Zuruneith (2005)
Thursday.June.15.2006
7:00 pm
Bloor Cinema
506 Bloor St W (Bloor and Bathurst)
TORONTO

The film follows the real-life story of Steven, a former child soldier from Uganda, who after a terrible sequence of events -including imprisonment, torture, escape, and the death of his wife and son -reached Denmark as a UNHCR refugee. The film is also a portrait of contemporary Uganda, Pearl of Africa and darling of the West, a country attempting to make the transition from military dictatorship to democracy.

Following the film there will be a panel discussion on child soldiers and we will also be collecting signatures and photographs for the Million Faces Petition which will send a powerful, global message of support to the world's governments for an International Arms Trade Treaty.

Please come out and show your support to help minimize the devastating effects of armed conflict!

The unregulated supply of weapons makes it easy for criminals to murder, for soldiers to kill indiscriminately and for police to arbitrarily take lives. Today's weapons are quicker and more powerful than ever before. And in the wrong hands, mean more abuse and more wasted lives. JOIN US TODAY!!!
